Job Description

The Latent Print Examiner (LPE) demonstrates acceptable evidence collection and handling techniques to ensure the integrity of the collected evidence is maintained under accredited laboratory guidelines and requirements. The employee analyzes latent prints for sufficiency, compares identifiable latent prints to known exemplars, and issues reports on their findings. The employee searches latent prints in Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems and renders expert testimony in court proceedings.

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Prior training in fingerprint classification/comparison or latent print analysis is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a hard science or Forensic Science is preferred
  • Prior latent print examination experience is preferred
  • IAI Latent Print Examiner Certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must possess initiative and be able to prioritize duties to meet deadlines
  • Must possess professional verbal, interpersonal skills, and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend information and speak clearly and distinctly
  • Ability to testify in court as an expert witness in the field of latent prints
  • Ability to note case file documentation detailing the processing techniques and the examination results
  • Ability to perform administrative and technical reviews of casework, reports, and worksheets.
  • Ability to ensure a proper chain of custody is always maintained.
  • Ability to obtain major case prints from a morgue environment and obtain comparative exemplars
  • Ability to simplify complex subject matter and verbally communicate it.
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suites
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for an extended period.
  • Must have good visual abilities, with or without corrective measures.
